Pauline "Polly" Vialpando, 92, a longtime resident of Las Vegas since 1940 after moving from San Rafael passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. She was born on Aug. 29, 1920 in San Rafael to Valentine Madrid and Odelia Sanchez Madrid. She was employed by the Jayval Parachute Factory. Throughout her life she enjoyed life as a homemaker, gardening, cooking and sewing, as her hobbies. She also enjoyed feasting and socializing with friends and lived with her daughter Catherine until the end. A lifetime Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. She was united in marriage in Las Vegas to Pete Vialpando in 1947. She is preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Odelia Madrid; husband, Pete Vialpando; son, Peter Vialpando, two infant children, brother, Alejandro Madrid, and Perfecto Madrid; sisters, Julia Garcia, Rafaelita Pacheco, Dolores Madrid, Flora Cartwright, Drucela Quintana; and nephew, Tony Madrid.She is survived by her daughters, Catherine and Mary Vialpando of Las Vegas; son, Rafael Vialpando and wife Elaine of Alabama; grandchildren, Elizabeth Davis and family, Michael and Andrew Urioste, Vanessa Schultz, Angelic and April Vialpando, Travis, Kristopher, and Derek Morales; ten great-grandchildren; sisters: Della Trujillo, Marjorie Madrid of Las Vegas, Petra McClure and husband Howard of Florida; brother, Percy Madrid and wife Nora of Las Vegas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.Rosary services will be conducted Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas with funeral services following after the rosary with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers, Michael Urisote, Isidro Pacheco, Elmer Pacheco, Michael Madrid, Henry Madrid, Travis Morales, and Derek Morales. Serving as honorary bearers will be all her remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
