Paul H. WoodLeslie, MIPaul Herbert Wood, 77, of Leslie, Michigan went home to be with his Lord on August 28, 2017.  Paul was born on October 19, 1939 in Rives Junction, MI. Paul is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ruthig; four children: Sarah (Alan Burton) Mitchell of White Gum Valley, Australia; Mary Drake of Jackson, MI; Matthew (Wendy) Wood of Kansas City, MO; Michael (Kristin) Wood of Pleasant Lake, MI; three stepchildren, Dwayne (Janet) Ruthig of Alto, MI; Wilma (Paul) Haas of Leslie, MI; Donald (Corrina) Ruthig of Leslie, MI; four grandchildren, Joshua (Teresa Cain) Wood of Lexington, KY; Lauren (Devon) Prough of Belgium; Elliot Wood of Sault St. Marie, MI; Lochlain Burton of Australia; nine   step-grandchildren and 23 step great-grandchildren and sister Marion Flager of Port Huron, MI. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennett (McDaniels) Wood; his parents, H. Rollin and Charlotte (Moeckel) Wood; his brother Earl Wood and his stepsons William Ruthig and Milton (Myra) Ruthig.Paul graduated from Jackson High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Madonna College majoring in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration degree from Western Michigan University. He served on the Leslie City Council and several related boards and committees for 15 years.Paul was a Vietnam-era Army veteran. He had a distinguished career with the Michigan State Police, retiring with rank of Detective Lieutenant in 1991 after 27 years of service. He continued to work at numerous other companies over several years as a fraud investigator/security guard.  Paul was a lifelong Lutheran and was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Leslie, Michigan.  An avid traveler, Paul visited all 50 American states and all seven continents. He travelled to more than 20 different countries. He loved to run and completed 23 marathons, notably in Boston, New York City, Alaska, London, Athens, Antarctica and Detroit. He ran a total of 32,000 miles. If he wasn't running, he was on his bike putting in long-distance rides, many of which lasted several days.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, 212 S. Sherman Street, Leslie, MI 49251.
