Hitchcock, Patricia DunganPATRICIA DUNGAN HITCHCOCK passed away on October 9, 2017 at the age of 94. Patricia was born on May 28,1923 in Chicago, the daughter of Guy Richard and Alice (Blackburn) Dungan. Patricia grew up in Winnetka, Illinois. As a child Patricia spent summers at the Indiana Dunes on Lake Michigan and in Upper Michigan. Patricia graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka. She excelled as an artist and was awarded an art school scholarship. She went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. A professional artist, Patricia is best known for her beautiful and delicately rendered pastel portraits of children and adults. Her portraits hang in private collections and businesses in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin, Chicago and New York. Patricia taught art classes for children and adults at the Oshkosh Public Museum and worked as a graphic artist for Miles Kimball Company. An avid gardener, Patricia enjoyed growing flowers for her vibrant still-life paintings and drawings. Always exploring her creativity, she took classes in painting, drawing, weaving and ceramics in Door County, WI and at New Mexico's renowned Ghost Ranch. Patricia saw the world through an artist's eye, every scene a painting in her mind.Patricia met her husband, Stephen M. Hitchcock at an USO dance at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago near the end of World War II. They were married on December 26, 1947 in Chicago. Soon after, the family moved to Wisconsin. An ever-adventurous spirit, Patricia loved taking her five children canoeing in the Boundary Waters of Canada, camping in the Rocky Mountains, and visiting Robinson Lake in Upper Michigan. Later in life Patricia enjoyed traveling to visit her five children in different parts of the country. Exploring her interests in history and genealogy, she traveled to Ireland in search of her distant relatives in Counties Cork and Galway.Patricia was also a wonderful cook and after studying French cuisine, she delighted her family with many marvelous meals. She also explored the traditional foods of India and Mexico. Patricia treasured her mother's family recipes and continued to make her grandmother Blackburn's Christmas raisin bread every holiday season. Those who knew Patricia will remember her as fiercely independent and determined to live her life her way. Patricia was adamant about staying in her home until the end of her life. A Special Thanks to Home Instead Senior Care of Appleton for providing the most compassionate and professional caregivers so that Patricia could fulfill that wish. She very much enjoyed the lively conversations and company.Patricia is survived by her much loved children, Stephen (Linn) Hitchcock Jr, Martha (Mark Steuer) Hitchcock, Sara Hitchcock, Jane (Lou Ortega) Fitzgerald, and Anne (Steve Forrey) Hitchcock, her grandchildren Ian Steuer, Emily Steuer and Drew Ortega, her brother Richard Dungan, and her cousin Sylvia (Keith) Felcyn.Please join Patricia's family and friends for a CELEBRATION OF LIFE to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at 3930 Windermere Lane, Oshkosh, WI 54902.
