Osbourne Thomas McLivertyAge: 94 • Charlotte, NCOn Saturday, August 18, 2017, Tom McLiverty went to the Lord.Osbourne Thomas (Tom) McLiverty was born on March 1, 1923 in New York City. Tom was one of twelve children. Tom served as a Sargent with the 78th Division in Europe during WWII. Seven other brothers served in the Armed Forces. After discharge from the Army, Tom was employed by J.A.G. 3rd Nav. District. From there, he went on to work for P. Ballantyne for 18 years before joining IBM in Essex Junction, Vermont.While living in Shelburne, Vermont, Tom was very active in his community. He served as a justice of the peace, was a member on the Board of Education and served on the church council at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.In 1978, Tom transferred with IBM to Charlotte, NC where he eventually retired in 1987. After retiring from IBM, Tom was involved in the Charlotte community. When not playing tennis, Tom volunteered at Habitat For Humanity, was a SCORE mentor to growing businesses, volunteered with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for 16 years and volunteered at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in several capacities.In 1949 Tom married Mary McLean in Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, NY. Together they have five children. Starting with their oldest son, Lawrence in Vermont with his wife Kathy, daughters Susan Stratton in Florida with her husband John, and Barbara Trulby in Charlotte, NC with her husband James, son Peter McLiverty in Chicago and daughter Beth in New York.Tom leaves behind his wife, Mary, his children, their spouses and seven grandchildren, Laura Kotas Overton and her husband, Johnny Overton, McLean Kotas, Justin, Derek, Madison, Emma and Ryan McLiverty plus siblings William, Irene, Nancy, Ann married to Bart Manula and Richard and his wife, Helen.A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 25th at 10:30 am in the chapel of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC.
