LANCASTER Orin Fredrick Stambaugh, 91, formerly of York, died Friday, April 10, 2015. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Baum Stambaugh, to whom he was married 63 years. Orin was born on November 8, 1923, in Spring Grove, to the late H. Allen and Clara J. Stambaugh. Orin was a businessman turned educator. He owned and operated a real estate and insurance office for 10 years in York, and then became a Cooperative Education - Coordinator for the former York Vocational Technical School, and lastly at the William Penn High School in York. He was a graduate of Spring Grove High School and Pennsylvania State University. He was called into active duty from the Army Reserves in 1943 and served in the signal Corps for three years in
World War II. His overseas duty included being stationed in four major islands in the Philippines. Orin was an Eagle Scout and a life member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars. Orin served as president of the following: York County Board of Realtors, Sertoma Club of York, Edgar Falls Smith Parent Teacher Association, and Spring Grove High School Half Century Graduation Group. Following his retirement in 1985 Orin resumed his interest in the trumpet with membership in the New Singer Concert Band, the Lake Meade Orchestra, and the Brass Ensemble at Zwingli United Church of Christ in East Berlin. Interests and hobbies included boating on Lake Meade, wood carving, and reading - especially World War II history. Orin was a gentle gentleman who loved his wife, adored his daughters, and enjoyed a lifetime of watching them perform. He served his country and community and would take the lead on projects and causes he believed in. He was a good listener, was curious, thoughtful, and resourceful. He was an avid Bridge player and playing his trumpet brought him and others great joy. In addition to his wife, Dottie, Orin is survived by his daughters, Kim Jureckson and husband, Mitchell, and Anne Meeder and husband, John; two brothers, Sherman of Ashville, N.C., and Carlton Stambaugh of Spring Grove; and grandchildren, Britta, Erica, and Max Jureckson, and Ashley and Ben Meeder. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in July when all of the family can be together. The date and time will be announced.
