O.L. (Doc) IsbellCampbell - O.L. (Doc) Isbell, 87, of Springfield formerly of Campbell, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon where he had resided for one year. He was surrounded by his family and friends. He had endured Parkinson's disease for 17 years. O.L. Isbell was born on June 4, 1929 in Senath, Missouri to Melvin Charles Isbell and Oberlon Holmes Isbell. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1947. He entered the United States Army in January 1951, was honorable discharged in December of 1952 and remained close with his fellow veterans. He then graduated from the college of mortuary Science in St. Louis, Missouri and was a Missouri Licensed Embalmer and Funeral Director for 62 years. He also served a term on the State Board of Embalming. He was a former member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association, Rotary Club and Lions Club. O.L. was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Springfield, Missouri for 16 years and served faithfully as a volunteer for 10 years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Campbell, Missouri. He was an avid Coon Hunter before the onset of Parkinson's disease. O.L. worked at Knell Mortuary in Carthage, Missouri, McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, Missouri, Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Missouri, Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri, Cotrell Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and became the owner of Isbell-Carothers Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs, Missouri.O.L. was the father of Melvin Kent Isbell and Cindy Ann Isbell from his first marriage. On September 22, 1969, O.L. married Naomi Kay Isbell in Trenton, Missouri. When O.L. and Kay were married, he gained another daughter, Mylene Denise Pond. All three of his children graduated from El Dorado Springs High School.O.L. was a compassionate, kind and gentle man who helped many families during his long career in the funeral business. The family appreciates the loving care O.L. received at the Veterans Home. A special thanks to his Funeral Director Friends, Bryan Simmons for personally picking him up, to Brad James of Landess for his kindness and services and to Brent Bland of El Dorado Springs for is many visits and for conducting the funeral services.O.L. is survived by Kay Isbell, his wife of 47 years, daughters, Cindy Markham and husband John of Valrico, Florida and Mylene King and husband, Keith of Ozark, Missouri, three granddaughters, Crystal Shumaker and husband, Phil of Inman, South Carolina, Brittney Whisenhunt and husband, Josh of Ozark, and Kelsey Martin and husband, Cody of Ozark, his brother Jim Isbell of Williamsville, Missouri, two sisters, Dixie Hogan of Campbell, Missouri and Bonnie Campbell of Kennett, Missouri and five great-grandchildren. O.L. was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kent and brother Charles.Visitation in Springfield, Missouri will be on Thursday, December 29, 2016, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Missouri with visitation there from 12:00 to 1:30 prior to the service. Burial with full military rites will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell Missouri. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson's Research.
