Norma Lee Hutchins Barringer12/31/1945 - 11/13/2015Norma Lee Hutchins Barringer passed away on November 13, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. Norma was born on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1945, in Fresno, CA, to George O. Hutchins and Johnnie Louise McCormick. The family moved to northern California where her future husband, Don, and his family had moved two years prior. They attended the same elementary and high schools, although in different grades. Upon graduation from high school, Norma and Don married and have had almost 52 awesome years together. From their marriage came three daughters and later a son was adopted into their family. Life was exciting, first getting Don through his college years in California, then locating to Montana and raising cattle and pigs (and a variety of other critters), and then finally settling in Cache Valley 28 years ago. All through the various moves, Norma didn't complain and remained always the steady force in the family. She was always positive, friendly, loving, caring and a premier example of goodness. Norma never met a stranger. She engaged complete strangers in conversation and made each person feel better for having met her. She and Don joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1977, wherein she was given many opportunities to teach. Her most favorite callings in church were in the Primary and being with the children. Those who knew her, wanted to be like her. She just had a remarkable understanding of life and its purpose, and she knew how to live to accomplish life's purposes. Money, fame, or worldly achievement were not her goals. Instead she sought to strengthen those around her. She loved unconditionally and demonstrated that love and compassion through deed and thought.Norma really loved animals. She taught her family to treat all of God's creatures with respect. She would never pass a lost animal without trying to rescue it. Over many years she rescued and fostered several hundred dogs and cats for the Cache Humane Society. She defended the weak and those less fortunate, and was Christ-like in her love for all of God's creatures. Her "greatest treasures" were her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, all with whom she shared a special relationship. She believed in giving service and strived throughout her life to provide service whenever she could. Norma was an excellent cook and loved to prepare large family dinners, entertain friends and neighbors, and plan and prepare church group luncheons and dinners.She was preceded in death by her father George with whom she shared a very special relationship and is anxious to be reunited on the other side. She is survived by her husband Don, her daughters Connie (Bruce) Birky of Logan, UT; Lori (Ross) Zilles of Weston, ID; Amie (Scott) Snow of Gilbert, AZ; and son Val Barringer; sister Kathryn (Wayne) Rommel of Park City, UT; brothers Copeland (Gale) Hutchins and James(Cathryn) Hutchins, both of California; and her 94 year old mother, Louise, of Grass Valley, CA. She is also survived by her "precious treasures" which include 18 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 11 a.m. at the Smithfield 9th Ward building, 675 West 200 North, Smithfield, Utah, with greetings and visitation for family and friends at the same location on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In keeping with Norma's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cache Humane Society and to Four Paws Rescue, both located in Logan, Utah.
