Nola G. Lyons, 81, of Erie, Pa., formerly of Tionesta, Pa., passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 16, 2016, at her residence, following a battle with cancer. She was born on February 8, 1935, in Erie, daughter of the late Archie E. and Thelma L. (Chase) Weingard. She graduated from Mercyhurst Preparatory School in 1952 and married her husband of 59 years, Patrick J. Lyons, in Erie, on March 29, 1957. She went on to graduate from Mercyhurst College, receiving her B.A. in Art in 1980. She opened and managed a health and natural foods department for Loblaws Grocery Store in Erie. Nola was a member of Tionesta Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano and organ. She had a deep love for nature and all animals, great and small. Nola and her husband traveled extensively in their RV. They visited all 50 states and 44 different countries. She and Pat enjoyed bicycling and biked in New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, and throughout Europe. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Patrick J. Lyons, are two daughters and two sons: Cathy L. Balest of Erie and her husband Ric, Dana P. Lyons of The Woodlands, Texas and his wife Debra, Dale L. Fischer of San Antonio, Texas and her husband Mark, and Dean E. Lyons of Pittsburgh, Pa. and his wife Shelby. Nola is also survived by her sister-in-law, Paula Weingard, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nola was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis E. Weingard, on July 4, 2016. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial will be announced at a later date.
