Ned M. Housley Obituary

Aug 01, 2016 - Sep 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
RICHMOND, Utah - Ned M. Housley, 64, passed away Sept. 14, 2008, while on his 4-wheel ATV doing what he loved. He used the last of his nine lives when his heart finally failed him. But the lives he touched will never be the same. He was born on Aug. 30, 1944, in Richmond, Utah, to Glen and Fern Johnson Housley. He graduated from North Cache High School and then worked in Idaho Falls, Idaho, building homes. He met his wife, Jeri, there and soon after they were married they moved to Southern California, where they had their first child, Tod. A few years later they moved to Ogden, where their second child, Annie, was born. In 1975 they moved to Richmond, Utah, where they built their home and raised their children. They also farmed during this time. Ned was a supervisor for US West/Qwest and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He had many talents and what seemed to come naturally was to bring a smile to everyone's face with his endless supply of jokes (even if you had heard them before.) His hobbies consisted of a morning and afternoon ritual at LD's Café, enjoying a cup of coffee and catching up on the latest stories, even making the old stories even more interesting. He enjoyed watching every sport, from his favorite PBR to Jazz basketball, football games or any other sport that might be on TV, which made it a good day, as long as he was in his recliner with a remote in hand. One of his other passions was "Competitive Gardening" with his buddy, Rick Parker. You might guess who had the best fertilizer. He was a very talented carpenter and could fix anything that you asked him to. He also mentioned many times how proud he was and how much he learned from his son, Tod. They both taught each other so much and had a very special relationship. He was also very proud of his two beautiful granddaughters, Cortney and Shanda, who added joy and love to his life. Every time he mentioned them his face would light up with pride and joy. After his retirement he traveled to California to help out his daughter and son-in-law with the endless jobs that they had for him. Greg and Annie loved having him around and really appreciated the energy and wisdom he brought to their lives. He also drove a truck for Zan Harris, giving him the opportunity to visit California more often. From Lake Tahoe, to Grass Valley, to Santa Cruz, he made many friends whose friendships he valued. Ned celebrated 44 years of marriage with his caring and beautiful wife, Jeri. He was proud of her talents and her gift sharing with others. They had many good memories and enjoyed spending time with a lot of good friends. He always appreciated the friendships that were made. One of his famous sayings he often repeated was, "I can't die yet because there are still two people in the world I haven't pissed off yet!" Well I guess he finally did … We love you Ned! He is survived by his wife, Jeri, of Richmond; son, Tod (Deneice) Housley of Richmond; daughter, Annie (Greg) Palmer, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; granddaughters, Cortney and Shanda Housley; brothers, Clinton (Margaret) Housley and Robert (Cheri) Housley; and sisters, Fay (Jay) Purser and Fern (Bill) Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008, in the Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Richmond LDS Stake Center, 135 W. Main, Richmond, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, also at the Stake Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home in Preston, Idaho. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com. A life celebration will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Tod and Deneice Housley's home, 216 N. 300 East, Richmond.
