NAWAZ MAHMOOD 81, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 12:11 a.m. in Sunnybrook Hospital. His cause of death was a long and courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Nawaz was born on May 5, 1935 in Sialkot, Pakistan to Wazir Chand and Vera (nee Besaakhi) Mahmood. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 and resided in Timmins, Ontario before moving to Toronto. He married Angela Mary (nee Francis) Mahmood in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on July 28, 1975. Nawaz was a hardworking man, who established a career in importing medical supplies from international markets. He loved to follow politics and was an avid reader. His Christian faith was strong and above all he loved Jesus Christ genuinely. As he was an extremely strong- willed man, he was also equally generous, honorable, loving and humorous. Though, his sense of humour was unique to him and deeply enjoyed by his family. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Angela Mary Mahmood and his three children, whom he was very proud of: Sophia Mahmood (married to Michael Rex Gomes), Shahzad Neal Mahmood and Heather (nee Mahmood) Marczynski (married to Tomasz Marczynski) and his grandchildren, whom he adored: Edward Nawaz Marcyznski and Veronika Ewa Marczynski. He is also survived by his brothers Zia Mahmood (married to Edna Mahmood) and Fida Mahmood (married to beloved Christina "Tina" Mahmood) and sisters Christina Asim (married to Paul Asim), Zareena Malik (married to Wilbert Malik), Nasim Akhtar (married to Naeem Akhtar) and Shamim Mahmood, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends for a viewing on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East (west of Bayview Avenue). A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 12 Denison Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. The Final Rite of Committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery (8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill).
