Myron E. ArmstrongCedar CityMyron E. Armstrong, age 85, of Cedar City, passed away on December 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Myron was born on June 18, 1931 to Edwin and Mabel Armstrong in Reynolds, Illinois. He served in the
US Air Force during the
Korean War and graduated from the
University of Illinois with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and then followed that up with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois as well.After moving to California with his wife Lois and 2 children, Julie and Dyan, he worked for Hughes Aircraft and pursued a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from
UCLA. After retiring from Hughes, Myron and Lois settled in Cedar City in May 1991.Myron and Lois joined the Cedar City Community Presbyterian church and were instrumental in leading and designing the construction of a new church facility.Myron volunteered for the Utah Shakespeare Festival for 25 years. It was with extreme joy that he and his wife Lois helped with fund raising and ushering. They also introduced all 5 grandchildren to Shakespeare through The Utah Shakespeare Festival Playmakers Program and the yearly assortment of plays. Myron loved golf and retired at 55 so he could play more. When Myron and Lois were looking for a place to retire, the quality of the local golf course was as important as the town itself.Myron is survived by his daughters Julie and Dyan, five grandchildren Melanie, Lauren, Kristen, Erika and Alena and 2 great-grandchildren Kolby and Simon. He is also survived by his sisters Virginia and Carol and brother Bill.A memorial service will follow later this year.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Community Presbyterian Church and /or the Utah Shakespeare Festival/Myron and Lois Armstrong Memorial Scholarship fund
