Muriel " Mert" J. Reimes, 81, of Gibbsville passed away peacefully and met her savior on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Sheboygan Progressive Care Center. Mert was born on May 7, 1935 in the Town of Lima to Wallace and Florence (Kooman) Veenendaal. Mert was a 1953 graduate of Oostburg High School. On September 14, 1956 she married Wayne Reimes at Gibbsville Reformed Church. Mert was a CNA for over 20 years at Pine Haven Christian Home.Mert was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where she was active in various activities and sang in the church choir. She also volunteered at Pine Haven and Good as New. Mert enjoyed cooking, baking, and most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The door was always open and everyone was warmly greeted and never left hungry.Mert is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; children, Steven (Maureen) Reimes of Beaver Dam, Larry (Lynn) Reimes of Gibbsville, Judy (Ken) Walvoort of Sioux Center, IA and Jill (Don) VerVelde of Gibbsville; eight grandchildren, Jason (Amanda), Shawn (Chloe), Katie (Ben), Peter (Brianna), Amy (Jeremy), Jessica, Carmen and Mitchell; nine great grandchildren, Kevin, Andrew, Ty, Lane, Trig, Cade, Camden, Bodie and Madelyn; three sisters, Edee Damkot, Carol Jensema, and Bev (Dennis) Diener; and four sisters-in-law, Nelda Westerbeke, Lois (Jerry) Faulkner, Thelma (John) Hewett and Linda Daane. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Mert was preceded in death by her parents, her parents-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, Don (Eunice) Veenendaal and four brothers-in-law, John Damkot, Roland Jensema, Don Daane and Alan Westerbeke.A funeral service to celebrate Mert's life will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 11 am at the Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. David Krueger and Rev. Luke Schouten officiating. An Inurnment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 3-7 pm and again on Tuesday at the CHURCH from 10 am until the time of service at 11am.
