Percy William Jenkins, Jr., departed this life on Monday, June 15, 2020, at 10:00 am at the Heritage Manor Nursing Facility in Ferriday, LA. He was the third child of thirteen children born to Percy William Jenkins, Sr., and Canary Stripling Jenkins in Tensas Parish on March 6, 1940. He attended the Tensas Rosenwald High School in St. Joseph. At the age of seventeen, he moved to Washington, DC, with his cousin. There, he began working as a brickmason. He was married to Elsie Richards, and later, he married Tommie Moffett. Percy accepted Christ as his own personal savior in December 2003. He was baptized by the late Reverend Roosevelt England at the Springhill Baptist Church before returning to Washington, DC. After retiring, he moved back to St. Joseph in 2015. Percy was known to some as P.W. and to some as Pete. Percy loved to cook and eat food such as beans, mustard greens, and steak, among others. He also loved and enjoyed making hot tamales. Percy was preceded in death by his parents, Percy William Jenkins and Canary Stripling Jenkins; sister, Sarah Louise Jenkins; granddaughter, Kelsey Carter; niece, Hazel J. Walker; and nephews, Melvin D. Jenkins and Calvin D. Jenkins. Percy leaves to his legacy: one daughter, Doreen Avis Carter of New Orleans, LA; two sons, Jeffery (Kerstin) Jenkins of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Marcus (Larnice) McGee of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; and step daughter, Tanya Logan of Washington, DC. He leaves to cherish his memories: seven sisters, Evelyn Jenkins of Mariero, LA, Eddie Lee Jenkins of Jackson, MS, Canary (Charlie) Gilbert of West Wego, LA, Pearl J. Conner of St. Joseph, LA, Jerry Dean Williams of Mansville, TX, Alma Joyce (late Benjamin) Frazier of New Orleans, LA, and Vera Mae (late Thomas) Cotton of Oklahoma City, OK; four brothers, Reverend Miles D. (Antonia) Jenkins, Sr., of Harvey, LA, Henry James Jenkins of Waterproof, LA, Larry D. Jenkins of Smiths Station, AL, and Pastor Donald R. Jenkins of Chesapeake, VA.; one special niece, Sheila Jenkins of Accokeek, MD; one special cousin, Wanda (Kitten) Turner of St.Joseph, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
