Modesto Borrego, 93, a lifetime resident of Turquillo, N.M. passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque.He was born on Oct. 11, 1919 in Turquillo to the late Estevan Borrego and Lucia Borrego.He was a retired self-employed rancher and also served in the United States Army where he received the American Theater European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.A lifetime Catholic, he was a member of the St. Gertrude Church in Mora.He was preceded in death by his parents: Estevan and Lucia Borrego; wife: Sofia Rivera-Borrego; sisters: Aurora Gonzales, Isabel Borrego, Bertha and Senida Gonzales; brother: Phil Borrego; grandson: John Torres; great-grandson: Manuel Borrego.He is survived by his daughters: Marcella Torres and husband Ernest of Guadalupita, Sylvia Muniz of Albuquerque; son: Wilfred K. Borrego and wife Debbie of Turquillo; grandchildren: Ross Torres and wife Emily, Amos Torres and wife Norma, D.J. Muniz and wife Jennifer, Gary Torres, Jonathon Muniz, Ashley Borrego Mathew Borrego and girlfriend Dominique and daughters: and Lori Borrego; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother: Ruben Borrego and wife Mary of Hanna, Wyo.; sisters: Berlinda Vigil and husband Gilbert of Taos, Josie Paiz, Annie Martinez and husband Cruz all of Denver, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives Army buddies and friends.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Gertrude Church in Mora. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Gertrude Church with Father James Sanchez as celebrant. Interment will follows at St. Terese Cemetery in Turquillo with the following serving as casket bearers: Ross Torres, D.J. Muniz, Amos Torres, Jonathan Muniz, Gary Torres and Mathew Borrego.
