Michael Deane Phillabaum67, passed away on August 31, 2017 in his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on January 8,1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ronald Dean Phillabaum and Joanne Carol (Davenport) Phillabaum Cotterman.He enlisted in the
United States Navy at the age of 18, during the
Vietnam War. He was stationed at Diego Garcia, the largest land mass in the Chagos Archipelago, an atoll occupying 67 square miles just south of the equator in the Indian Ocean. While serving in the United States Navy, he read all the literary classics. His rank was Storekeeper Second Class. He was awarded The National Defense Service Metal and was honorably discharged on June 3,1979.He graduated from Macomb Community College in 1981 with the degree of Associate of General Studies. He attended Wayne State University and Indiana Wesleyan University.He enjoyed a varied career. He began in the food and beverage industry, working in his father's restaurant. He was employed as executive steward by all the major hotels in Indianapolis, Indiana. He changed careers to work at Von Duprin Incorporated. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for 20 Years of Dedicated Service from Ingersoll Rand.He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn (Meese), his father, Ronald Dean Phillabaum, his mother, Joanne Carol (Davenport) Phillabaum Cotterman, his 4 siblings, Milan Phillabaum (Melinda), Marcy (Phillabaum) Bennett (LaRue), David Phillabaum (Brenda), Eric Phillabaum (Margaret), two step daughters, Emily Rose (Fletcher) Inman (Elijah), Sarah Fletcher, 3 nieces, 4 nephews.A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220. Service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple, burial will follow at Washington Park North Cemetery, 2702 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46228.
