Hickman, Michael Albert,Retired Master Chief Aviation Boatswain Mate Michael Albert Hickman, 82, of Louisville, passed away August 6, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and visited by his great friends.MCPO Hickman was born on April 11, 1935 in Elmwood, OH and joined the USN in 1953. After numerous sea deployments aboard the aircraft carriers USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and the USS Intrepid, MCPO Hickman retired from his naval career in 1973 at Norfolk Naval Air Station after 21 years of service. His retirement plaque stated "Occasionally One Attains the Pinnacle of Excellence" which fully described his character and attitude during his long adventurous life.After his distinguished naval career in which he received multiple commendations and during his employment with Reynolds Metals Company, Mike graduated from the University of Louisville in 1981. Upon his retirement from Reynold Metals in 1985, he spent most of his retirement years in Brooksville, FL. Mike and his wife Pat would travel to Louisville in the springtime to visit family, friends and the Kentucky Derby. They would then RV throughout America's beautiful western states, filling their days fishing, dabbling in gold prospecting and staying in remote areas of the Rocky Mountains.Mike was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years Pat, mother Marie Heal, father Elmer Hickman, and brothers Donald Hickman and Johnny Heal.Mike is survived by his sons, Mike (Sherrie) Hickman and Patrick (Beckie) Hickman; brothers Joe (Vicky) Heal and Jerry (Jondi) Heal; sister Mary (Paul)
Smith; grandson Brian Hickman and great-grandchildren, Brian and Adilynn.A memorial service will be held at the Knight of Columbus, Bishop Spaulding Council Post# 2761, 4417 River Road on August 19, 2017 from noon-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Knights of Columbus #2761, Wounded Warriors or Hosparus.
