MOSS, Mervin LloydApril 18, 1948 - May 16, 2017It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our eldest brother Mervin, who passed away of pneumonia. He is survived by his siblings, Terry, Patricia, Michael, Tim, Susan, Barbara, Fred, Mark, Victoria, Joey, Stephen and their respective spouses. He is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews, many of whom have played a very important part in his life. Mervin was predeceased by his mother and father, Lloyd and Sophie Moss and his brother Jim Moss. Mervin was born on April 18, 1948 in Wilkie, SK. He was the eldest of 13 children and spent his childhood years in the Capilano community in Edmonton. He became an accomplished musician in both piano and accordion. Mervin, along with his brother Terry, won the Alberta Kiwanis duet accordion championship three years in a row, and later they led their 10 siblings in the family show band, The Alaska Highway Birthquakes. Mervin set up in the Calgary area and pursued a career in music, selling keyboards, pianos and accordions, along with teaching music and performing in local bands. He had a gift in teaching young children to play the keyboard of which some became accomplished musicians. Mervin was never short in giving his time to those in need. He spent many happy days with his younger brother Joey, who has Down syndrome, and they developed a very special relationship with one another. Mervin was a wonderful man with a "heart of gold". He was extremely generous with his spirit, mind and music and not afraid to speak his mind, and for all of that, he was often the "life of the party". Mervin's terrific sense of humour, along with his singular dedication of being unique is what we all found special about him. Mervin leaves us with a lifetime of memories; he was an inspiration to us all. A Celebration of Mervin's Life will be held at Mervin's acreage near Rockyford, AB on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please contact Foster's Garden Chapel if you are interested in attending.
