Meredith HughesAnkenyMeredith Rae Hughes, age 81, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Monday, June 26, 2017 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street. Burial will be at Squire Boone Cemetery, Boone, IA. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be Monday, from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Meredith (Rae) was born on November 19, 1935 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Edith and Chris Huenink in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Ronald Hughes on June 11, 1955 in Lincoln. Rae and her family moved to Valpraiso, Nebraska and Federal Way, Washington before moving to Waukee, Iowa in 1972. They lived in Waukee until moving to Ankeny in 2007. Rae was employed in various retail locations and was a homemaker. She was a very proud military wife and mother. Rae enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was active in her church. Meredith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and son Neil Hughes. She is survived by her sons: Layne Hughes (Connie) of Euless, Texas, Chris Hughes (Kay Thede) of Ames, IA, and Bruce Hughes (Angela) of Ankeny IA; 8 grandchildren: Jeremy Hughes, Kate-Lynn Peery, Matthew Hughes, Erin Fuller, Jason Hughes, Shane Hughes, Lauren Hughes, and Logan Hughes; 4 great grandchildren: Alexander Fuller, Raven Fuller, Cadence Hughes, and Wyatt Peery; one sister, Jane Meadows (Ron); nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
