Mathilda Johanna Poulsen “Tillie” RACINE — Mathilda Johanna (nee: Fischer) Poulsen, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2014. Tillie was born on March 6, 1920 to the late Julia Bidstrup and Jens Fischer. Tillie was united in marriage to Erven Soren Poulsen on February 16, 1946 in Racine. She was an active, faithful, and lifelong member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. At Gethsemane, she was involved with the Ladies Guild and Bible studies. Tillie loved to play piano at many churches and enjoyed sharing her music at senior centers in the community. She was an avid crafter, attending and participating in many crafting fairs. She made baby hats, afghans, sweaters, and blankets. Tillie’s most important and greatest joy in life was her family. Tillie will be dearly missed by her children, Susan Hoernke, Cindy (Scott) Koenig, Ben (Diane) Poulsen, and John (Donna) Poulsen. Tillie is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Tillie was preceded in death by her late husband, Erven. Services for Tillie will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at 12 pm with Pastor Nancy Hoelter officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at 10 am until the time of service at noon. Interment will follow after the service at Graceland Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Tillie may be directed to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3319 Washington Avenue, Racine, WI 53405.
