BUTLER — Mary L. Stickan, age 86, of Butler, Indiana, died at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, where she was a resident. Mary Lou (Calhoon) Stickan was born on Nov.25, 1929, in Gilead, Michigan, the daughter of Lynn and Mildred (Keesler) Calhoon. She married C.A. Stickan on June 27, 1948, in Bronson, Michigan, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage together. She and C.A. moved to Edgerton, Ohio, in 1955 and soon began farming and raising a family of four sons, Steven, David, Kenneth and Keith. Mary always helped on the farm, helping with milking the dairy cows and driving tractor in the fields whenever needed. She was an excellent cook and a well-loved and respected mother. She and C.A. enjoyed camping and fishing and spent their winters in Texas for many years. They rode bicycles and loved to go square dancing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Butler, had a great sense of humor and was very good at playing Jeopardy, especially with questions regarding geography. Surviving are two sons, David (Bev) Stickan and Keith (Linda) Stickan, both of Butler; one sister, Edith (Robert) Lyster of Baldwin, Michigan; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; six nephews; a sister-in-law, Wanda (Frank) Printky of Coldwater, Michigan; and a brother-in-law, Emery J. Stickan of Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.A. Stickan, in 1998; two sons, Kenneth, in 1971, and Steven, in 2007; and one sister, Betty Keys, in 2001. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary L. Stickan will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, 114 E. Hull St., Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor Jack Smith and Pastor Gene Thimlar officiating. Visitation will take place in the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton. Memorials are requested to Crossroads of Zion Church in Butler.
