HUDSON — Mary Spornhauer, 86, died April 23, 2014. She was born on July 24, 1927, to Henry and Mary Madeline Freon. She received Holy Baptism on September 1, 1927, and was confirmed on May 5, 1934, in St. Patrick's Church in Fort Wayne. Mary attended Central Catholic High School. She married Junior Darrell Spornhauer on October 3, 1948, in Fort Wayne, he preceded in death on June 28, 1988. They were blessed with four sons and lived the first eight years of marriage in Fort Wayne, before moving to Hudson. She joined Zion Lutheran Church and was reconfirmed in the Lutheran faith. She transferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. She worked for a period of 25 years at Kmart in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1992. Mary enjoyed spending the winter months with her son in California. Surviving are four sons, Darrell (Elizabeth) Spornhauer of Walkerton, Ind., Edwin Spornhauer of Hudson, Peter (Luanne) Spornhauer of Auburn, and Geoff (Robin) Spornhauer of Colvis, Calif.; five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; and a brother Henry Freon of Fort Wayne. Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 10275 E. C.R. 550S, Hudson, with Pastor James Elsner officiating. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson, and one hour prior to funeral. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
