Mary R. Simpkin1940 - 2016Mary Rose Simpkin, 76, of Alamogordo passed away only to travel home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 12th, 2016. She was born on March 3rd, 1940 in Alamogordo, NM.Mary is survived by her sons, Richard and Thomas Simpkin; grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, and Jessaln Simpkin; step father, Edward Meyer; brother Frank Cano and his wife Geri Cano (Torrez); sister in law Nina Cano (Montoya); nephews John, Edward, Thaddeus and James Cano; nieces Debra Sutphen (Cano) and Tammy Underwood (Cano).She is proceeded in death buy her husband Wallace "Wally" F. Simpkin (SSGT, US Army); mother Mary Meyer (Sandoval); father Theodosius Cano; brother Ted Cano. She spent her childhood in the Alamogordo area. She met and dated her husband to be and was married to him shortly there after. As the spouse of a soldier they moved to various military bases in the US and in Europe. During this period of time she gave birth to sons. After her husband received orders deploying him to South Vietnam she returned to the Alamogordo area to be with family and friends.Just before Christmas in (68) she would receive a telegram informing her that her husband had been killed in Vietnam. She would for the rest of her life remain a widow and raise her two sons. She would continue to be a homemaker for her sons and grandchildren for the next 48 years. Like others she worked various jobs to make ends meet along the way. She was loving, caring, generous, encouraging, tough, and of course stubborn at times. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The person other than her sons and grandchildren, who she loved to spending time with was her mother, Mary.Rosary will be given by her life long friend and confidant Mrs. Linda Villabisencio.Both Services will be at Our Lady Of The Light Catholic Church in La Luz, NM. Rosary service will be at 6pm, Monday, December 19th, 2016.Mass service will be at 10:30am, Tuesday, December 20th, 2016.Lunch will be at the La Luz Gym shortly after the Mass service on Tuesday.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Lady Of The Light Catholic Church at 4 La Luz Rd., La Luz, NM 88337.
