Mrs. Sonneborn, 95, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2016 with her family at her bedside holding her hands. She was born on February 5, 1921 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of Thomas Brown Evan and Mary Eliza Booth Spencer.A native of Charlotte, Mary Maynard attended Converse College and Queens University, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She served as a financial advisor to the fraternity for many years. Her volunteer work also included the Shepherd's Center and Myers Park United Methodist Church, in the business office and the kitchen.Mary Maynard is survived by her daughter, Madeline and husband, Theodore A. Scharfenstein of Charlotte. Her loving family includes grandson, Thomas John Scharfenstein and wife, Amy of Sarasota, FL; granddaughter, Mary Madeline and husband, Joshua E. Ebert and their children, McKenna Kathryn and Zachary Christopher of Tampa, FL. Also surviving is her cousin, Leslie Maynard Booth of Petersburg, VA.The service to honor her life will be held on Saturday, November 12 at 11:00 am in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park United Methodist Church. There will then be a short graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at Mary Maynard's home on Queens Road for a light lunch reception.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Metrolina Association for the Blind; Bud's Fund for abandoned and abused animals at Long's Animal Hospital on South Blvd.; or the -Charlotte Chapter.Condolences may be offered at www.HarryandBryantFuneralHome.com.
