ILGEN, Mary M.Mary M. Ilgen was born on September 5, 1924 to Isadore and Anne (DeMuth) Gdanitz in Loup City, NE. She passed away on December 7, 2016 at home in Spokane Valley, WA from complications due to Parkinson's disease.Mary briefly attended the University of Nebraska. It was in Nebraska that Mary met the love of her life, Bill. After a brief courtship they were married August 22, 1953. Mary became a homemaker to their five children and was wholly devoted to her family. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, loved to garden. A child of the Depression, she knew how to provide for her family on a tight budget.She was a devout Catholic. She attended St. Mary Church, taught first grade CCD for nine years, made food and cookies for parish events and funeral lunches. Many years ago she decided to come to daily Mass for Lent. After Lent was over she continued to come to daily Mass because she enjoyed it, and she found it to be spiritually nourishing. Mary was also involved in Women of Rotary, Garden Club, and Book Club.She is survived by her husband Bill; her children Brian (Ilze), Ann (Dave), Tim, Laura (Chuck), and Margo (Andrew); several grandchildren Ingrid, Sascha (Joseph), Kate, Megan (Logan), Matt, Emily, John (NaTesha) and Renae; and one great-grandchild Tristan.The Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Parish, 304 S. Adams Rd., Spokane Valley, WA on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the Funeral Mass. Urn placement will follow at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Parkinson's Research Foundation.
