Mary Kelley AntunezSanta Paula Mary Kelley Antunez (Fildes), 85 of Santa Paula, California passed away peacefully August 17th, 2017 after a long battle with kidney disease. Mary was born on April 30, 1932 in Sedan, Kansas to Howard and Ina Fildes. Mary was a long-time resident of Santa Paula, California and attended Santa Paula Union High School class of 1950. Mary married Sherman Kelley in 1949, they were married 22 years before he passed. They had three children Eric, Daniel and Lori. Mary then met Carlos Antunez, father to Bobby, Helen and Mercedes. They soon fell in love and married in 1973. Mary often spoke of her early years with her husband Carlos and how he taught her how to dance. Mary was a secretary to the superintendent for Santa Paula Elementary School District for many years. She was remembered fondly by her bosses and coworkers for her dedication and personality. Mary enjoyed retired life spending hours crafting making wooden Christmas ornaments that she cut herself or with the help of her husband. These hand painted ornaments now fill the Christmas trees of her children and grandchildren. When she wasn't crafting she was cooking to the delight of her family. Everything tasted better at her house whether it be deviled eggs, enchiladas, a pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, or a chocolate sheet cake on a Sunday BBQ. Many nights at Mary and Carlos's house you could find family playing games such as Rummikub, Skip-bo or Yahtzee which Mary was fiercely competitive at! Mary had a blessed and fulfilled life, she enjoyed spending time with her family and raising her children with her husband, visiting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her house was the gathering place for all major holidays and birthdays. She was the true matriarch of her family, a family who will truly miss her. Mary is survived by her husband Carlos Antunez, her children Eric Kelley (wife Rena), Daniel Kelley (wife Kathleen), Lori Crowley (husband Dave), his children Bobby Antunez, Helen Kobzi (husband Robert), Mercedes Parra (husband Tom); their grandchildren or "pumpkins" Dawn Swift, Justina DeLeon, Debra Casey, Dianne Barber, Rebecca Martinez, Brian Kelley, Nancy Perez-Van Vlimmeren, Ryan Dale, Megan Manley, Marina Dale, Michael Garcia, Matthew Crowley, Nick Crowley, Alexander Dale; Great grandchildren Gabriel, William, Kaitlyn, Allura, Isaiah, Emily, Jack, Dustin, Thomas, Ava, Raylan; Siblings Glenna Helms, Bobby Jo Fildes (wife Mary) and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her siblings Adrian Fildes, Aaron Fildes and Howard Dean Fildes.Mary's family is grateful for the kind care she received from Assisted hospice care. We thank family members, neighbors and friends for their kind words and visits made to our Mary in her last days. The family will hold a viewing at Skillen-Carol Mortuary from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday August 24th, 2017 with a life celebration service on Friday August 25th, 2017 at 9:00am followed by a grave side service at 11:00am at Santa Paula Cemetery.
