Wohlwend, Mary HelenMary Helen Wohlwend, age 84, passed away on August 1, 2017, due to complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). She was born on July 9, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Catherine B. (nee Hinger) and Hilary F. Martin.Mary attended grade school in the Milwaukee area and high school in Snohomish, Washington. On January 6, 1951, she married James P. Rintelman at St. James Church in Sussex, Wisconsin. Together they had four children, Jim, Mary Jane, JoAnne and Joe. James preceded her in death, passing away on October 8, 1959. Mary then moved to West Bend to raise her four children with the help of family. During this time she worked at Amity Leather. She found the second love of her life Lawrence (Larry) Wohlwend, Jr. and they were married at Immaculate Conception Church in Barton on October 5, 1968. Lawrence Wohlwend the third (Little Larry) was born in 1969.Larry and Mary farmed in the Jackson area for the next 30 years. She gardened, preserved and shared the farm's bounty with friends and family. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Parish, directing the church choir for many years. In their later years, Mary and Larry retired to Maribel WI and enjoyed traveling, throughout the 50 US states, Canada and Mexico. She crocheted many afghans for family and friends and made new friends by joining a knitting/crocheting circle in Green Bay. Mary was a Brewer fan who attended games with her sisters and listened on a regular basis with anyone who visited. After Larry died in 2010 she moved back to Cedar Communities in West Bend returning to Green Bay to be with her children for the last few months of her life.Mary is survived by four children, James Martin (Linda) Rintelman, Mary Jane (Ben Laird) Rintelman, JoAnne (Steve) Blank, and Lawrence Martin (Judy Theis) Wohlwend III. She has eight grand-children; Jodi Rintelman, Jamie (Graham Fletcher) Rintelman, Michelle (Hadi Ali) Rintelman, Justin Dhein, Nikki (Ryan) DuRussel, Emily (Eric Schafer) Laird, Amy (Nate Fritz) Laird and Lisa Laird. Also Mary has five great-granddaughters; Hanna, Annemie, Samantha, Fatima, and Matilda. Her surviving siblings include Nancy Gremminger and Judy (Lee) Barwick and six sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.She was preceded in death by her husbands, James P. Rintelman and Lawrence M. Wohlwend Jr.; son, Joseph James Rintelman; her brothers John, James and Hilary Martin, her parents and parents-in-law, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 406 Jefferson St, West Bend, with Rev. Justin Lopina presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery (new). The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 629 Cedar St, West Bend.Memorials to St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter in Green Bay or the Milwaukee Rescue Mission Homeless Shelter appreciated.The family would like to thank Cedar Bay Communities in West Bend, New Perspectives in Howard, and her care team from Unity Hospice for their additional support as her ALS disease progressed.On-line guestbook and condolences available at
