Mary Dell VanLandingham MT. PLEASANT - Mary Dell VanLandingham, 79, of Mount Pleasant SC, passed away at 8:05 AM on November 18, 2016. Mary Dell was born on September 28, 1937 in Waterboro, SC. She was the daughter of the late John and Willie May (Cochran) Cawley of Walterboro, SC. She graduated from Walterboro High School in 1955. She attended the Medical College of South Carolina (MUSC as of 1969) School of Nursing where she earned a BSN in 1958. Mary Dell was an exceptional nurse serving as Head Nurse for numerous departments in various hospitals and private practices in South Carolina, Texas and Georgia. Throughout her career her sense of care for the well being of others was shown on a daily basis and she will always be remembered as someone who put everyone ahead of herself. Her love of nursing was only eclipsed by the pride and joy she received as a mother. She never missed a sporting event or performance of any of her children, and was the first to sign up to be the troop or team leader. She basked in her children's successes and truly excelled at being a mom. Mary Dell is survived by her children: Bill ( Eleanor ) VanLandingham, Teri VanLandingham, and Joe ( Krista ) VanLandingham. She has 5 grandchildren: Kathryn ( Matthew ) VanLandingham Yarber, Will ( Leah ) VanLandingham, Ashley VanLandingham, Dylan VanLandingham, and Miles VanLandingham. She is also survived by two brothers: John Cawley and Richard ( Sherry ) Cawley as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother George. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday November 25th in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 117 Paul Street, Walterboro, SC.
