This obituary is administered by:
Mary Bosser JoyceEast Lansing gracefully and peacefully passed away on May 19, 2017. Members of her family were at her side throughout her final hours. Mary was born on July 10, 1935 in Appleton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lona and Alfred Bosser and the sister of Al. She and Bill Joyce began their more than 60 year romance while in high school. They graduated from Lawrence University and were married in the summer of 1956. The two of them moved to Lake Forest, Illinois, where Mary taught grade school and Bill pursued graduate studies at Northwestern University. After bringing Sean and Kevin Joyce into this world, the young family moved to East Lansing in the mid-60s, where Bill began his career at MSU. Britten and Brooke Joyce were born soon thereafter. While in East Lansing, Mary used her artistic talents to design costumes for the musical productions at East Lansing High School, dance in the ballet studio of Judi Pressick, and sing in the MSU Choral Union. She and Bill travelled extensively in Europe; Rome and London were her favorite cities. Closer to home, Chicago, Stratford (Ontario), and Door County (Wisconsin) were frequent destinations.Mary was famous for never having paid full retail price for top-quality apparel from such establishments as Nordstrom, Jacobson's, and Lord and Taylor. She loved shopping for presents for loved ones year-round.  In her later years, Mary turned to catalog shopping, especially for chocolate. She also loved Indian and Middle Eastern food, and always ordered the Maurice salad at Jacobson's.Bill and Mary were regular theater and moviegoers. At home, they loved watching Masterpiece Theatre and Downton Abbey.A doting mother of four and grandmother of eight (Tara, Andrea, Redmond, Avery, Callahan, Braeden, Keegan & Kyle), Mary gave so much of herself to her husband, children and grandchildren, and was devoted to her church and friends. Her bubbly, outgoing personality was legion. She could, literally, light up a room. Truly, we will miss this wonderful woman.A memorial service will be held at Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing on June 9, 2017, at 11 am, with visitation at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Martin Luther Chapel would be welcomeThe family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing.
