BellamyAugust 11, 1931 - February 14, 2015Mary Bellamy, 83, died peacefully on February 14, 2015, at Sunny Ridge Retirement Center in Nampa, sharing one last Valentine's Day with her beloved husband, Carl (Tiny) Bellamy.A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at the College Church of the Nazarene, 504 E. Burial will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com.Mary was born on August 11, 1931 in Juniata, Nebraska to Bernard and Fern Atwater. She graduated from Jerome High School (Idaho) in 1948, at the age of 16. Mary began attending Northwest Nazarene College (now NNU) that fall. Tiny and one of his friends spotted her sitting with girlfriends in The Beanery on the NNU campus. They flipped a coin to see who would get to ask her out, and Tiny won the toss! Mary said "yes" because she always wanted to go to a football game with a college man wearing an overcoat. Their 65 year marriage began on July 18, 1949 in Elko, Nevada. After most of her children were grown, Mary returned to school at Eastern Oregon State College, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1973. She and her husband taught school in the Alaska Bush for eight and a half years prior to their retirement. After spending several years snowbirding in their motor home, Mary and Tiny moved back to the Treasure Valley, and Mary dedicated herself to Christian Service, sewing dresses for little girls in impoverished countries and quilts for hospitals in Africa; feeding NNU sports teams, and nurturing and encouraging countless students who needed a little mothering; and cleaning and painting NNU dorms while school was in recess, and ushering at the Brandt Center. It was Mary's philosophy that good works didn't count if you told anyone about them. Nevertheless, the school alumni association became aware of her contributions, and honored her with an NNU Distinguished Service Award in 2003. Mary and Tiny are also members of the NNU Athletic Hall of Fame, for their contributions to the school's sports programs.Mary is survived by her husband Tiny; children: Larry Bellamy of Athena, Oregon; Marla Bellamy of Caldwell, Idaho; Candace (Candy) Bellamy of Nampa, Idaho; Robin (Rob) Bellamy and wife Gloria of Anchorage, Alaska; and Lisa (Lee) Bellamy of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren: Marque, Isaiah, Tanner and wife Wendy, Nathaniel, Sierra and Teresa; and great grandchildren: Durbin, Ocean, Garrett, Celeste, Samantha and Daniel. She was predeceased by her parents, her only sibling, Nora Olsen and nephew, Roger Olsen. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Tiny and Mary Bellamy Scholarship at NNU, 623 So. University Blvd., Nampa 83686.
