Love You to the Moon and Beyond

Mary Ann (Thompson, Andersonn) Taylor was born November 2, 1950 in Caldwell, Arkansas to Ruthie May Thompson and Hurbert Woods. Mary lived in Caldwell with her loving maternal grandparents, Rev. RJ Thompson and his loving wife, Rosie; as well as, her young uncles/brothers, Henry Lee (PIG), Buddy (Harold), Frank (Chester), as well as her two young siblings, Sandra and William (Zoid/Doe Doe).

She moved to Grand Rapids, MI to live with her mother, Ruthie, after the death of Big Momma Rosie in 1970. She attended Central High School and was an amazing dancer and was honored to dance with Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar before he went to California to dance on Soul Train. Unortunately she could not travel with him because she had a young son, Gregory, at the time.

Through a series of mishaps and challenges she ended up in Jackson, Michigan where she met Larry Taylor and had another son Lil' Larry. As life happens sometimes things didn't work out and she came back to Grand Rapids and met Doug Lofton and finally got herself a daughter, Lashawn Denean Lofton. She absolutley loved her children and went above and beyond for them. In 1982 she reconnected with Big Larry and they married for a brief period where they lived in both Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. When things ended between them she came back to Grand Rapids. She lived on Charles street where most of her children's friends developed a family relationship with her. She has many sons and daughters because of those relationships.

In 1993 she married Andy Anderson of the United States Army and they moved around a lot. That was also where she got a taste of working retail. Mary who is bossy by nature became a manager at JC Pennys and later was able to market herself and work on the military base in the PX store where she was a store manager until her untimely and premature call home to glory.

She developed liver complications in 2004 and had to have a transplant that same year. She married Greg Taylorand and inherited 2 more daughters, Jazzmine and Joslyn Taylor, the following year. It was something about those 2 names. On July 14th God decided that she had had enough and brought her home after He allowed all whom she loved dearly to come and see her, as well as speak with her on the phone. She went to sleep in the home of her first born in Jamestown, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents (Preacher Thomas and Big Momma) RJ and Rosie Thompson. She leaves to mourn the passing of her sons, Gregory Keith Thompson, Larry Montrel Taylor and her daughter, Lashawn Denean Lofton, as well as her mother, Ruthie May Thompson, her sisters, Paulette Pittman, Sandra Casso (Jorge) and her brothers, William Jones (Jesse) Darius Thompson (Maureen).

Mary was petite in stature but she had the biggest heart for her family. She most definately loved her grandkids who she has too many to list all the names thanks to her children who loved to procreate. She left 25 of them and of the 25 she was extremely close to Lashawn's five children because they were always around. But her first grandson, Lil Greg, had that spot that only the first born can have. She also has some nieces and nephews, Julian, Marqui, Stephan, Andre, Kawanda, Arena and Dexter, that smothered her with love and adoration whenever she was around.

She did not depart this earth not knowing that she was loved. No one went without her wishing them a happy birthday. One of the posts on Facebook called her sassy. That was her. She spoke from her heart and was unapologetic about it. She will be sorely missed by all.

You can to the family or in memory of Mary Thompson-Taylor.
