Mary Alice HessMay 13, 1925 - Nov. 26, 2016MISHAWAKA - Mary Alice Hess, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at home.Mary Alice was born on May 13, 1925 in Burket, IN to John E. and Lois (Johnson) Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Philip H. Moore and Richard C. Moore.Mary Alice moved to Mishawaka in 1942, where she attended Mishawaka High School. A few years later, on April 2, 1949, she would marry the love of her life, John R. Hess. He is left to cherish her memory along with their daughters, Susan (Melvin) Wood of Granger and Candice Anne (Craig) Salyer of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Sean Christopher (Allison) Wood, Dane Zachary Wood of Washington, DC, Katherine Horning of South Bend, Laura Salyer of Mishawaka and Amanda (Pieter) Naragon of North Manchester, IN; and 9 great-grandchildren.She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. She taught Sunday School, helped with memorial luncheons and was a member of the Women's Society. Mary Alice was also a charter member of the Bashor Womens Auxillary, a Beiger School PTA worker, a youth worker for the Mishawaka Family YMCA and Treasurer for the Dial A Care foundation. She was known for her caring and generous spirit, devoting 30 years to volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program.Funeral services for Mary Alice will be on Tuesday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior in First United Methodist Church, 201 E. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
