Mary Agnes Curtis, 91, "The Queen" of the Mahoning Towers, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital, surrounded by her children.Mary was born on Nov. 15, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Agnes "Mollie" Burke Keaveney. She graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1945.On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Thomas Joseph Curtis, who preceded her in death on May 5, 1989, and moved to Punxsutawney and began her family. After raising her children, Mary worked at Rola Jensen International. She was a faithful member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church. Mary loved her Bingo and Game Nights at the Towers. She also recently volunteered at the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society."The Queen" is survived by six children, Molly of Venice, California, Anne (Tim Clark) of Pittsburgh, Tom Jr. (Carol Ann Smith) of Callahan, Florida, Jeanne of Punxsutawney, Peggy (Robbie Anderson) of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Fred (Sue Brown) of Milford, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Melissa of Punxsutawney, Norman (Skye Fraser) Anderson of Brooklyn, New York, Mary Ellen Anderson of Waltham, Massachusetts, Curtis Houk of North Versailles, Pa., and Samantha Houk of Omaha, Nebraska; three brothers-in-laws, Harry Lorden of Hagerstown, Maryland, Lou Carnazzo of Kailua, Hawaii, and Bob McNiff of Yonkers, New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Curtis, and two infant children, Timothy James and Martha Agnes. She was the last of her Keaveney family, having survived her siblings, Catherine "Kitty" Lorden, Margaret "Peggy" (Bill) Tillette, Eileen Magarelli and Thomas Joseph Jr. (Carolyn Conner Carlson). She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Rita and Fred Hutchison, Jake and Lettie Curtis, Jack and Susie Curtis, Fred and Joan Curtis, Mary C. Carnazzo and Elaine C. McNiff.She will be greatly missed by her loving caregivers and helpmates, especially Debbie Porter, Maria Lotito, Joan Davis and Robin Farmery and the Mahoning Towers family.Friends and family will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home in Punxsutawney. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church, with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating. A funeral luncheon will follow at the school auditorium hall.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Punxsutawney Memorial Library or the Punxsutawney Area Historical & Genealogical Society.
