RACINE - Marvin Walter Staven, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2012 while on vacation to northern Wisconsin. Marvin was born on February 14, 1934 in Grafton, N.D. to Arthur and Minnie (Matson) Staven. He moved to Superior at an early age and moved to Racine in 1963. On April 13, 1957 he was united in marriage to Connie Rich. He was employed by J.I. Case for 36 years and retired March 1, 1999. Marvin (Papa Stav) was active in the Racine Explorer Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps for over 25 years where he enjoyed driving buses for the Scouts and working on their Board of Directors. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, traveling, and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 55 years and six children: Laura (Jeffrey) Lui, Jeffrey (Kim), Lisa, Jana (William) Macemon, Gregory (Jane), and Bradly. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jason (Sandy), Jessica Lui. Jacob, Erik Staven, Katrina, Kevin Macemon, Drew, Noah, and Olivia Staven; two step-granddaughters, Kari and Megan Johnson; five great-granddaughters, Kathryn, Kaia, Grace, Hazel, and Claire Lui; one great-grandson due in September; one brother Juel (Kay); four brothers and sisters-inlaw Arlene (John "Lee") Andrews, Gary (Sue) Rich, Kathy (Edward) Katzmark, and Robert (Debbie) Rich, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by special friends, Jim and Teri Bishop and Fred and Tammie Radspinner. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Palmer, Floyd, and Leonard. In keeping with Marvin's wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4340 Six Mile Rd. Visitation with the family from 12:30-2 p.m. Service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marvin's memory to Racine Special Olympics or Austism Speaks.
