STURTEVANT - Marvin Welfel, 94, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Friday October 12, 2012. Marvin was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on August 16, 1918, the son of the late George and Anna (nee: Winscher) Welfel. He was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School. On August 6, 1960 Marvin was united in marriage to Karen Hjortness, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was the oldest member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and had been an active member, serving as president for many years. Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp as a Flight Instructor. He was employed at ES Precision as a tool and die maker retiring after many years of service. Marvin enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an accomplished tennis player. Marvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen and their children; Cheryl (Carl) Wyatt of Austin TX, Gary Davis of Madison, WI, James (Linda) Welfel of Roseland, NJ, Tom (Julie) Welfel of Maumelle, AR and Jon Welfel of Racine; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Marion Hazelton, Betty (Jack) Nelson, Marcella Hjortness, Mary Hjortness and Effie Hjortness. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Marvin was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred (Gary) Haarsma. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Bill Grimbol officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. Marvin will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony.
