Marv Beguhl passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 25, 2014. He was born in Mobridge, South Dakota on November 21, 1928. His family moved to Caldwell, Idaho in 1930 where he lived until he graduated from Caldwell High School. During his time in Idaho he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He attended the University of Idaho, boxing and playing football for the Vandals from 1948 to 1951. He was drafted into the Marines after graduation and served for 2 years. Over the next four years he went on to play professional football in Chicago and Canada until he ultimately returned to school to get his Masters in Physical Education. Marv met Rita, his wife of 58 years in 1955 while he was teaching High School in Ajo, Arizona. They were married on June 2, 1956 and were blessed with 6 children. Marv taught in Ajo for 12 years until he moved his family to the Salinas Valley in 1967. In his early years, Marv enjoyed playing many different sports especially fast pitch softball. He passed on the love of the outdoors to his children, teaching them how to fish, and taking long hikes in the mountains at their cabin. Marv spent 24 years teaching and coaching Football and Track at North Salinas High School. Through coaching and teaching he made many life long friends. He retired from teaching in 1991. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family across the United States. Along with all of his accomplishments, he taught his children about commitment, faith, and to follow their dreams, always being there to support them in their endeavors. He is remembered as a gentle giant and successful teacher in and out of the classroom. He was inducted into to the Salinas Valley Sports Hall of fame in August of this year, a night that helped him to see how many lives he touched through out the years. Marv was an active parishioner at Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church. He was a cancer survivor and took pride in participating in the Relay for Life. In his later years he enjoyed working in his back yard, spoiling grandchildren, and keeping connected with his friends. He is survived by his wife Rita, daughters Jan Keough, Pam (Stan) Phipps, Theresa Beguhl, Donna (Charlie) Trementozzi, Mary (Dale) Hoch and sons Mark (Lisha) Beguhl and Steve (Holly) Beguhl, 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers Emil (Shirley) Beguhl, Fred (Alberta) Beguhl, Dean (Norma) Beguhl, and a twin sister Mildred (Frank) Pinaire . In lieu of flowers family requests donations in Marv’s honor to Dorothy’s Kitchen or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
