KINSTON - Martin Louis Camnitz passed away at home on May 15, 2014, after a long illness. He was born on May 3, 1920, to Esther and Edward Camnitz in Hampton, Virginia. After marrying the love of his life, Naomi Laskavy, in 1942, he enlisted in the army and served in World War II in the 12th Armored Infantry as a Staff Sergeant. He was a charter member of the Lenoir County Manufacturer's Association, was president of the Chamber of Commerce, and board member of the Committee of 100. He was recognized nationally for his contributions to the apparel industry. Martin was a contributor to numerous charities. Martin Camnitz was known for his ability to get along with everyone, affording him many friends who would all attest to his wonderful wit and sense of humor.
