Martha Lou Henry, 74, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 20, 1942 in Martinsville, VA to the late Martha McDowell Henry and Robert Douglas Henry. Martha was the great, great grand-daughter of William Wallace and Sarah Lucinda Smith McDowell who lived in and owned the 1840's brick house which is now the Smith-McDowell House Museum. The museum is the city's first mansion and oldest surviving brick house in Buncombe County.Ms. Henry was a graduate of Danville Memorial School of Practical Nursing. After she graduated she worked in the nursery at Martinsville General Hospital and then went to work at Children's Medical Center where she retired with forty-two years of service as Dr. Jack LaFave's Nurse. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was in the Women's Circle 6 group and the Senior's Unlimited Club.She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William D. (Bill) Henry and Sandra of Martinsville, VA; special pets (cats) Jazz and Baby Girl; close friend and co-worker, Connie Brewer of Collinsville, VA. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Ritchie. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the church from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and other times at the brother's home, 1903 Dundee Lane, Martinsville, VA.
