Thompson, 89, formerly Martha Calentine, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Sprenger Healthcare of Mishawaka.Martha was born on October 31, 1927 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Samuel & Bertha Smith, and was a lifelong area resident. Martha was preceded in death by: her brothers, James & Leonard Smith and sisters, Lillie Nash and Betty Misner.On May 10, 1942 in Mishawaka, IN, Martha married John A. Calentine Jr., who preceded her in death in 1990, after enjoying almost 49 years of marriage. Martha & John had five children together: James M. Calentine, Billie L. Nash, Betty J. Short, William S. Calentine and John A. Calentine III. Martha was preceded in death by her children, James Calentine, John Calentine III and Betty Short.In 1993 Martha married Robert H. Thompson, who also preceded her in death in 2002.Martha was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her children and later her grandchildren. She loved fish and birds and had many pets over the years. In the last few years when taking care of her own birds became too much for her, she enjoyed them from her window. Martha had a green thumb and always had beautiful house plants; she also collected knick knacks and probably still has every one she ever owned. The greatest joy in her life was spending time with her family and friends and you could always count on her for a glass of iced tea when you came to visit.Martha is survived by her children, Billie Nash and William Calentine, both of Mishawka. Also surviving are grandchildren, James (Claire) Calentine Jr., Robert Calentine, Karry Calentine, Sheryl Nash, Tina Cothard, Rick Nash, Tommie Cruz, Matthew (Shell) Calentine, Jamie Calentine and Brent Calentine, as well as numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.A memorial service and Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at a later date.Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with her arrangements.
