Martha Ann Deas was born April 26th, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY. The third of seven children born to George and Lillian Deas. Martha Ann better known as Mort was known as a caring, loving, fun, and kind person. Biologically she was the mother of three daughters, Donza, Zarita, and Davita, but she was also a mother figure to Kim and Shamel. In 1992 she married James Meeks, they practiced Islam and remained married until her dying day. Some of her favorite hobbies included listening to music, long walks, trips to Coney Island, and watching movies. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and lived for each moment with them. On June 8th 2018, Martha Ann peacefully left this world in her sleep. Martha leaves behind her husband, children, siblings Lillian, Georganna, Gwendolyn, George Jr, and Louis. Her 13 grandchildren, 8 great grands, a host of nieces and nephews, and friends who will truly miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmothers Lillian Smalls, and Maime Deas, her grandfather Abraham Smalls, and her beloved sister Debra.
