Dr. Marlo Nelsen, 82Dr. Marlo Nelsen (Everett Marlo Nelsen) longtime resident of the Iowa City area passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 23, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Friday, June 2 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.Marlo was born on October 16, 1934 in Scott Township, a son of Everett Nelsen and Ruth Beenen. He married his wife Jeanne in Iowa City, April 18, 1957. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1999. Marlo worked for many years as a research scientist in cell biology at The University of Iowa. He published many scientific papers, and some of his photographs are still being used in current textbooks.Marlo is survived by his children Greg Nelsen, Annie Pedersen, John Rowley and Bill Rowley, and by his grandchildren Wim and Kirk Murray, Robin Rowley, Kristoffer Rowley, Ethan Rowley, Patrick Neylan, Molly Neylan, Blake Rowley, Arlyn Nelsen and Cybin and Sabrina Nelsen, and by eight great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Nature Conservancy.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lensingfuneral.com
