This obituary is administered by:
Marlene McAteerMarch 11, 1932 - July 28, 2015Marlene Byrd McAteer passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on July 28, 2015. She died of complications from pulmonary fibrosis at Portneuf Medical Center. Marlene was born on March 11, 1932 in Pocatello, ID, the daughter of Otis and Flora Byrd.A proud graduate of Pocatello High School, Marlene had a remarkable ability to remember names and faces of classmates. She was activity in the Class of 50 reunions and recently was assigned to the "calling committee" to remind everyone of upcoming events. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Clair Hanks for 30+ years. Marlene married Bob McAteer on November 25, 1950. They resided in Pocatello their entire married lives. He was the love of her life. They were inseparable. Bob was always in charge and Marlene gave him permission to say it.An honest, supportive lady, Marlene also was the world's best worry wart. Each of her children received an appropriate poster that read: "Don't bother worrying. Your mother already worries enough for each of you!" She was an avid bowler and up until recent years regularly bowled over 200 point games.Marlene's greatest accomplishment was raising her four children, David, Terri, Michael, and Bob, Jr. Nothing was more important to her than her family. She was quoted as saying, "If you raise your children right they will not move more than 90 miles away." The closeness of her family is not just a measure of geography.A devoted wife and mother, Marlene is survived by her husband Bob, her four children, David, Terri Linn Hillman (Roger), Michael (Lisa), and Bob Jr. (Lisa). Her spirit is carried on through her six grandchildren: Lindsey, Tyler, Nick, Andy, Paige, and Emily and five great grandchildren: Brynlee, Addison, Braden, Natalie, and Rylee. She is also survived by her sisters: LaRue and Sharon and step-grandsons: Colton and Eatson. Preceding her in death were her parents, sister, Marilyn and great grandson, Traegan.Funeral services will be held at Wilks Funeral Home, 211. W.
