With loved ones at her side, Marilyn Jule Hayes passed away on November 23, 2016 in Warrenville, IL at the age of 77. She leaves behind her partner, Robert Dorey; her daughters, Kelly Hayes and Leslie Hayes-Houtkooper; son-in-law Eric Houtkooper; daughter-in-law Catherine Crouch, and her beloved granddaughter Katherine (Katie) Houtkooper. Marilyn was born on May 5, 1939 in Chicago, IL, to father Frederick Kenyon and mother Helen Kenyon (née Krause), who predeceased her. An only child, Marilyn grew up surrounded by her many aunts, uncles and cousins on Chicago's south side. Marilyn attended Northern Illinois University where she met Joseph Hayes. They married on May 28, 1960. Several years later the couple moved to Downers Grove, IL where they raised their two daughters. They divorced in 1980. Since retiring from a long career in sales and marketing Marilyn took up bridge and became an excellent player. She had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling and learning about different peoples and cultures, visiting many different countries over the years. Her planning and organization skills were legendary among friends and family members as was her joie de vivre. When diagnosed with lymphoma in 2016, she vowed to fight her illness. She remained a strong and compassionate woman, even throughout her final months. Marilyn requested to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery. A memorial will be held Saturday, December 3rd from 2-4 pm at Maple Hill Clubhouse located at 30W017 Penny Lane in Warrenville, IL; all are welcome.
