Marilyn HarperEast Lansing, MIAge 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 17, 2016. Marilyn was born on November 12, 1939 in Rhinelander, WI, the daughter of James W. and Alene (Riley) Jay. She graduated from Central Michigan University and later, from Northern Michigan University with her Master's in Social Work. Marilyn met and married Charles Harper, with whom she shared 55 years. They moved to Escanaba and then downstate to reside in Haslett, MI. Marilyn love for helping others resonated with her volunteer efforts with the Salvation Army and Haslett Community Church, where she managed both food pantries. She also shared her time and talents as Haslett Community Church's parish assistant for many years and could always manage to make time to provide a listening ear to women that needed a friend. Marilyn sewed, quilted and loved to garden.Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles M. Harper; children, Robert (Shawn) Harper, Jonathan Harper and Sarah Johnson; 6 grandchildren and 2 brothers also survive. A private memorial service is planned for the spring.
