MARGARET JOAN HOYER, 77 FREEPORT - Margaret Joan Hoyer, age 77, passed away suddenly on Thursday Dec. 19th, 2013 at the FHN Hospital emergency room in Freeport, IL. as the result of an apparent cardiac event. Margaret Joan (Tulley) Hoyer was born on June 14th, 1936 in the District of Uxbridge in the country of Middlesex, England, daughter of Frederick and Edith Tulley. Margaret met a U.S. Air force serviceman 12 years her senior, Airman 1st Class Gene Peter Hoyer and they were married on November 7, 1955 in the District of Harrow in the country of Middlesex. They had four children from their union; daughter, Jeanette (Kris) Kelty of Monroe, WI., sons, Steven P. Hoyer and Victor (Lisa) Hoyer of Freeport, IL and Harley (Kathy) Hoyer of Dakota, IL. Margaret was also blessed with five grandchildren, Cory J. Ohms of Mahomet, IL, Jessica Hoyer of Davis, IL., Wesley Hoyer and Dylan Hoyer of Pearl City, IL and Amber Hoyer of Dakota, IL. Margaret's life was further blessed with four great-grandchildren, Benjamin and William Ohms and Addalyn and Holly (Hoyer) Jones. As Gene served in the Air force, the family lived in England, were stationed for two years at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and areas around the U.S. Upon Gene's discharge from service the family settled in Scales Mound IL. The marriage ended in 1984 and Margaret and her sons still residing at home moved to Freeport, IL. Margaret was very grateful for the opportunities in America and she became a naturalized United States citizen in the late 1970's. Margaret worked for many years as a nurse's aide for Stephenson Nursing Center and was very proud when she received her Senior Aide certificate in May of 1978 from the Nursing Center. Margaret also worked for 15 years as a factory worker for Honeywell in Freeport until retirement in the mid 1990's. Margaret was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. In her later years Margaret was involved with Provena Adult Day Center and enjoyed assisting the staff in caring for the residents at the center. To all that knew her, Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her 5 siblings, Winnefred, Charlie, Gordan, and many of England, and Florence of California; and her youngest son, Harley. Schwarz Funeral Home, Freeport, IL. is handling cremation and assisting the family. There will be a public celebration of Margaret's life on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Prairie Ridge Apartment Complex community room from 12 to 4 p.m. The address is 1730 Hance Drive Freeport, IL. The family looks forward to sharing food and fellowship with all who wish to come together and share this time of remembrance of Margaret's life. There will be a private burial by the family this coming spring. Memorials will be directed to Prairie Ridge Apts. Lutheran Social Services and to Provena Adult Daycare facility in Freeport.
