Lucius Cormier Obituary

Jan 01, 1940 - Oct 23, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
1939 - 2016 Dr. Lucius Cormier, Jr., D.D.S. Boo Boo to his close friends and family, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at his home in Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by his family. Lucius was born on December 31, 1939, in Port Arthur to Lucius Cormier, Sr. and Felice Boutte Cormier. He was a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School, where he was a star quarterback and champion sprinter winning the 100 yard dash in the 1957 Junior Olympics. After graduating from Lamar State College of Technology in 1962, Lucius taught biology at Stark High School in Orange from 1962 to 1967 before working on his Master's degree at SMU and the University of California at Berkeley. He received his D.D.S. degree from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston in 1971 where he was the recipient of the Mosby Award for scholastic excellence. Starting his business from scratch, Dr. Cormier practiced dentistry in Beaumont for 45 years where he spent his career brightening the smiles of thousands of people throughout Southeast Texas. He was also active as a well-respected member of the American Dentistry Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the Dental Society of Southeast Texas. Lucius is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna Cormier; daughter, Kearsy Cormier of London, England, and husband Kieron Brown; son, Chase Cormier of Houston, wife Mandy, and grandsons Hunter Filson, Colin Cormier, and Anderson Cormier; son, Konor Cormier of Houston, wife Kristi, and granddaughter Kinzie Cormier; and son, Cale Cormier of Austin. Lucius is also survived by his lifelong friend Louis Gallio of Manvel; his brother, Davis Cormier of Houston, and wife Molly; and his sister, Sybil Moore, of Port Arthur. Family was the most important part of Boo Boo's life. He loved and admired Donna like none other and could not be prouder of his four children. He cared deeply for all of his grandchildren, enjoyed his many years visiting with his patients, and practiced his unwavering Catholic faith. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Anne's and St. Jude's. Lucius had the great fortune to travel to all corners of the world with Donna visiting most of the United States and over 40 countries including most of Europe as well as Russia, Australia, Egypt, and the Holy Land. Walking his daughter Kearsy down the aisle in London in 2014 was one of the highlights of his life. Lucius enjoyed gardening, writing screenplays, and performing magic tricks for his grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for those less fortunate and tried to help those he came across in life, whether with a dollar here and there or taking a homeless man to the grocery store. We may never know how many he helped because he always did so privately and rarely spoken of his altruism, but we can all strive to do the same. A Memorial Mass for Dr. Cormier will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with a reception to follow at Holub Hall. Arrangements for Dr. Cormier are under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Some Other Place, P.O. Box 843, Beaumont, Texas 77704, someotherplacebeaumont.com, because Boo Boo would have liked that. Complete and updated information may be found at: broussards1889.com.
