Lowell James "Jim" Thompson Jr. passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, April 27, 2015, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on Sept. 5, 1938, in Pasco, Wash., to Lowell J. Thompson Sr. and Anna Louise (Martell). He married Joyce Peterson in 1957, and they had a daughter and a son. They later divorced. He married Leslie Curry in 1963, and they had a son. They divorced after 31 years of marriage. In 2009, he married Charlene Hibbert. He spent his early years growing up in the Pacific Northwest, mainly in Oregon and Washington state. He graduated from high school in Pasco, Wash. During his early years, he worked as produce and assistant managers for various grocers. Later for the Army Corps of Engineers in Walla Walla, Wash., he worked on the plans for several of the dams on the Snake River. In 1970, he followed his lifelong dream and moved his family to Alaska, where he went to work for the Alaska Division of Aviation and was then privileged to visit many parts of this state he so loved. He spent many years in the construction industry, building homes, apartments, condos and light commercial buildings in Anchorage. Jim spent many happy hours with his hobby of woodworking. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, and her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Larry Gamble of Anchorage; and by his sons, Lowell "Jim" Thompson III (Natha) of Palmer, Alaska, and Kelly R. Thompson of Anchorage; also by his mother, Anna Thompson; brother, Kenneth Thompson (Lynn) of Anchorage; sister, Jenny Gibson; and his ex-wife, Leslie Knapp of Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Thompson Sr.; his daughter, Kim McAllister; brother, John Thompson; and sister, LoAnn Osborne.
