Lowell Eugene Matthews, Jr was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 25, 1945 to Lowell E. Matthews Sr and Josie Crowe Crippen. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnessess on March 5, 1960 in Salem, Virigina.
Lowell was 74 years old and the husband of Martha F. Matthews. He was the father of Michael S. Matthews, L. Christopher Matthews, Jared E. Matthews, Jonathan D. L. Matthews, Jennifer M. Bullard and Joseph K. Matthews.
He was dearly loved and will be missed by his eleven grandchildren Makayla A. Hood, Jeselle E. Matthews, Jaxon D. Matthews, Jordan I. Matthews, Jayla A. Matthews, Juliana R. Matthews, Michael T. Bullard Jr, Jeremiah A. Bullard, Journee E. Matthews, Joelle J. Matthews and Michelle B. Bullard.
Lowell was raised in Knoxville. He traveled some during his early adulthood; however, he always considered Knoxville his home. He settled in Charlotte, North Carolina where he and Martha raised their family. He worked as a general contractor with an emphasis on home remodel.
He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Crippen and Josie C. Crippen, and his sister Juanita Boateng. He is survived by his wife, 6 children and 11 grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of love to his surviving siblings Ann Davis, Jacqueline Thomason, Joyce Jones, Terri Jenkins, Barbara Lindley, Ollie Edwards, Alivia Watkins, James Matthews, Clarence Crippen, Benjamin Crippen III, Andre Crippen and Walter Crippen along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends located throughout the United States.
