AYDEN | Lou Mooring Smith, 82, of Ayden, passed away on November 16, 2014. Mrs. Smith was born on September 4, 1932, in Greene County to Robert and Alma Mooring. She was a 1951 graduate of Maury High School. Lou was a lifelong member of Little Creek FWB Church, where she was past president and treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary and received the lifetime member certificate. She taught Sunday school and Bible school as well as being the leader of the Senior Meetings for many years. She went to Kinston every Friday and had lunch with Caswell co-workers. She was also the secretary for the Order of Pocahontas Meeting Silver Stream Council in Ayden for 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going out with friends and shopping and traveling. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Smith; her parents and one sister, Kay Stocks. She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Smith and wife Lisa, of Greenville; and a daughter, Pam Barrett and husband Barney, of Newport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Farmer Funeral Service, Ayden. Burial will follow in the Ayden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
