Lorraine Stone Obituary

Oct 22, 1925 - Nov 18, 2015

This obituary is administered by:
Lorraine L. StoneOctober 22, 1925 - November 18, 2015Lorraine Stone died peacefully the morning of November 18, 2015 at West Valley Medical Center after a long fought battle. She was surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine was born on October 22, 1925 in Boise to Maria and Antonio Landa. After graduating from Homedale High School, Lorraine attended the Boise Business College. She was an administrative assistant for J.R. Simplot, Norma and Roy Vance, Dick Kellett, Arvin Millwork and Dick Eismann, attorney-at-law. Lorraine served as a Court Clerk for Owhyee County until she retired. Lorraine met her husband of nearly 60 years, Oscar (Red) Warren Stone (1924-2005), on a blind date set up by Herb and Mary Ann (Pasley) Garrett. They were married in 1946 on Red's birthday.Throughout her life Lorraine enjoyed gardening, arranging bouquets from weeds she had picked along the roadside, making breakfast for her grandchildren every morning for decades, designing decorative birdhouses, spending endless hours at her children and grandchildren's sporting events, compiling their sports scrapbooks and many crazy, wonderful adventures with her sorority sisters and friends Lydia Duncan, Judy Tolmie and Donna Haylett. Lorraine was a lifelong Beta Sigma Phi member and loved all her sorority sisters. She made beautiful scrapbooks for her sorority as well.Along with Red, Lorraine was a founding member of Homedale's First Presbyterian Church. There was hardly a Sunday Lorraine was not greeting people as they came through the front door of the church. She was also an ordained Elder, and she took responsibility for preparing the church for morning worship. Her decorations can still be enjoyed at the church. Lorraine was also instrumental in starting a women's coffee group in Homedale that started with 7 to 8 members and grew to up to 30 women who still meet together. Lorraine rarely missed morning coffee with her mother.Tony and Melenie Stone invited Lorraine to live with them after Oscar died in 2005. Lorraine was never without the attention and love of her entire family. Her daughter, Maria, was a loyal and fierce advocate for Lorraine when she was unable to speak for herself.Lorraine is survived by her two children: Maria Stone (Tim Waldron) and Tony Stone (Melenie); her grandsons: Chris Hoshaw (Carrie), Tony Hoshaw (Justin Snodgrass), Daniel Stone and Neeko Stone; her great grandchildren: Conner Hoshaw, Colby Hoshaw, William Snodgrass-Hoshaw, Adessa Stone and Braxson Stone; and her brother: John Landa (Aileen) and family. Lorraine is also survived by Weneda and Julian Landa (and family) and Teresa and Antonio Larrocea (and family). The viewing will be held at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 5-7 pm. Lorraine will be honored and her life celebrated at Homedale's First Presbyterian Church at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Tony Hoshaw and the Reverend John Pickrell officiating. Lunch will be served at Homedale's Basque Center immediately following graveside services. All are welcome. Lorraine was the center of her family's life, and while we cannot join her on the voyage she is now undertaking, her jovial, loyal, and independent Euskal spirit lives on in her family. We are blessed to have had so many good years in this life with Lorraine. Condolences may be left at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com.
