Linda Sue (Price) Van MeterMARION: Linda Sue (Price) Van Meter died Monday, October 24, 2016 unexpectedly at Marion General Hospital. She was born on July 27, 1939 in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of Hazel and Edwin Price. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1957 and attended Franklin College in Indiana. On January 18, 1959 she married her high school sweetheart, James Van Meter. She settled down to be a homemaker and the mother of 5 children, Timothy (Angie), Christine (Jim) Gould, Jerry (Linda), Susan (Bob) Houston, and Jed (Lora). Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fred Price, her son Timothy, and her son-in-law Bob Houston. She is survived by her loving husband Jim, her brother Ted (Bonnie) Price, her sister-in-law Barb Price, and her four remaining children.Linda was devoted to the Lord and it showed through everything she did. Her greatest joy was looking after her family, assisting her children, her 10 grandchildren and her 9 great grandchildren (+1 on the way) with their music, sewing needs, and attending all of their activities. One of her favorite times was Christmas, when the entire family would gather. Although she wouldn't consider herself a great cook, she was noted for her potato salad, homemade pies, and Texas Sheet Cake. She was a great companion to Jim (a pastor of the United Methodist Church) and accepted all the moves with both sadness upon leaving great friends but also with joy in seeking to follow the call of the Lord upon their lives. She returned to Marion in 2000. Since then she and Jim enjoyed many travels, especially trips to Florida to visit old friends and take in the sun.Besides caring for her family, she gave private piano lessons to many beginners, was a pianist, organist and director for church choirs and assisted with various school music programs. Linda was a faithful member of the Marion Salem United Methodist Church. She served the Lord, not only with her gift of music, but also through the United Methodist Women's Group, both on the district and conference level. She was involved with the Heart of Ohio Walk to Emmaus, serving on many teams for this spiritual week-end. Linda loved to quilt, tearing pieces of material apart and creating beautiful quilts for home, family, and friends. She was always working on a mission project; making diapers, putting together school bags, packing Christmas boxes for needy children, and recently preparing plastic grocery bags to be made into sleeping pads for the homeless. Her family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, 1640 Salem Rd., Caledonia. Services honoring her life will also be held there at 10 a.m. on Friday, with Rev. Beth Ann Mansperger and Rev. Joe Sopher officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made directly to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center, P.O. Box 56, Chatham, Illinois 62629; where Jim and Linda volunteered many summers.Snyder Funeral Homes of Marion are honored to have been chosen to serve Linda's family and your favorite memories and condolences may be shared with them by visiting
